| Queen Monika Klinaviciute - Miss Ethnic Ireland 2012: the gorgeous
Lithuanian born Miss Ethnic Ireland 2012 tells us how she would use her Crown to fight for the Rights of women, particularly young Women.
|
Congratulations on winning Miss Ethnic Ireland 2012. How does it feel winning
this very important beauty pageant?
For me being Miss Ethnic means a lot;
it’s more than just winning the beauty contest. It's a great opportunity to learn new things, get experience working
with other girls for the Campaign Against Female Genital Mutilation and with other Human Rights organisations.
I'm really looking forward to the upcoming year.
As Miss Ethnic Ireland how would you use your crown to fight for the rights of women,
particularly young women?
Before the competition I didn't realise what women all over the world are facing in their every day life. Getting
ready for the contest, I read some articles about FGM, watched videos and I was truly shocked and moved deep inside.
I want to support the campaign against FGM, also support young women living here in Ireland who face abuse and
violation of their human rights. I'm willing to talk to them and listen about their experiences, also encourage
them to go out there, tell about their experiences. This subject cannot be a secret any more, it's a crime and
should be stopped.
You are the queen of all ethnic groups in Ireland, how would you help to contribute
towards reducing rate of racism in Ireland?
I think that people should not judge anyone by their colour, everyone is the same; no one deserves
to be treated differently. FGM campaigner, Ifrah Ahmed and United Youth of Ireland are planning having a committee working
with youth and teach that racism is not accepted in our community in Ireland. As Miss Ethnic I am going to be in the
committee as I am Lithuanian...
