"None of us likes getting a bollocking, and nobody likes it being done in front of other people....But if you have something positive to to say about someone, shout it from the rafters.”
-Brody Sweeney

It's not particularly attractive being an African woman. Or is it? She can't marry more than one husband, but an African man can keep a harem. She may aspire to any professional height, but this must be weighed against her culinary skills because the only way to a man's heart is through the stomach, and beauty and brain without sound kitchen portfolio is a waste of African womanhood. And even man’s everyday pastime, like hanging out with the boys, is taboo for women. No girlie night out for an African woman because she is married, because it could lead to gossip and gossip could lead to a gang-up: against man, against his authority, against his many wiles. This month's cover story, “Night Out with Friends: Is it Wrong for a Married Woman?” is all about African man's fears, his insecurity, his double standards, his unlawful perpetuation of patriarchy…
The Original Stereoman, also known as Ekwe, is having his first ever concert (also featuring Baba Frayo) in Galway city, Ireland on Easter Monday, and Xclusive Magazine is one of the sponsors of the show. To whet your appetite we caught up with Ekwe for an xclusive interview. I must confess that transcribing this interview was highly challenging because it is full of clichés and personal lingos, what Fela would call Ajegunle English. And because certain words and phrases are unique to this artist and thus identity defining, paraphrasing them is sometimes inadequate. So In “Original Stereoman: Ekwe” I have left some phrases, like “I touch women, but I don't dilute them”, untouched, sorry, undiluted.
Does the name Adeola Ogunsina ring a bell? I know it doesn't because he is not loud, because he is very humble, because he wants his deeds to speak for him. Still, as the saying goes, there is no hiding place for a gold fish. When Enda Kenny, the leader of Fine Gael Party, presented Adeola as Fine Gael Local Representative at the 2009 Local elections, Xclusive Magazine was there to witness it, to celebrate him…the reason why we are featuring him on our “Xclusive People”
It is about class. It is about style. It is about panache. It is about glamour. It is the Xclusive Awards! The first and the only Award that honours and celebrates all Africans in Ireland. We did it last year, we are doing it again this year. And we have raised the stakes so high because it is our duty to set the pace for others to copy! The date is 24 May 2008. The venue is the prestigious Park Plaza hotel, Tyrrelstown, Dublin 15. And it is strictly by invitation.
Best wishes, always!
