Publisher's Intro'
"Many of life’s failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up.”
-Thomas Edison inventor of light bulb.
First let's talk about sex, one of the greatest pleasures of
God's creation. Man, in spite of his machosism, is weak. And woman, with all her subtleness, is mischievous. Cast your mind back
to a million years at the Garden of Eden. Can you see how a little tickle from Eve had sent Adam into a sexual rage, causing him
to lose all his senses? Adam didn't even take a bite out of the forbidden fruit, he ate the whole bunch. Greedy man! Adam
and Eve, at the Serpent's prompting, had discovered life’s hidden pleasure. And God wasn't particularly happy. The rest, as
they say, is now history…This month's feature, “In Love's Name: Would You Break Fasting for Sex?” is to provoke debate on man’s
insatiable appetite for sex and the lure of a spiritual life.
Now let's talk about class. On Saturday, 5 May 2007, the crème de la crème of Africans in Ireland
gathered at The Gresham Hotel for the maiden edition of Xclusive Awards, an initiative of Xclusive Magazine. Simply
put: it was all about class, style, panache, elegance, glamour, glitterati…Here we serve you all the details: the stories,
the pictures, the gong, the glamour, the red-carpet and the xclusive interview with Rotimi Adebari, winner, Person of the Year.
You brand us the leading black lifestyle magazine in Europe. And we’ve never let you down.
Now check out our new additions: “Esse Agesse: Xclusive Diary”, yes the music superstar now keeps a monthly diary in
Xclusive Magazine. “Agony Aunt” is where Mrs Justina Law solves all your problems. “Definitive guide to London
Culture” brings London closer to you…Aha, Cardinal Francis Arinze, the black man who would have been Pope, had a whistle stop in
Ireland. On “Xclusive People” I have captured our memorable encounter with him, and the events that preceded it, in lyrical prose.
We had our anniversary celebration. We celebrated the Xclusive Awards. Now we’re back to
business. When we reduced our cover price from €4 to €2 it was meant to be a one-off “thank you” gesture. So we should
be reverting to our usual cover price. But the problem is, you are already getting used to the new price, plus the fact that
we have garnered new readers (a sizeable 30% increase in sales). Now we are trying to be careful not to burst your bubble and
at the same time be able to balance our accounts. And we think the best way to go is for both parties to meet each other half way home.
Therefore, our new cover price of €3, starting from this edition, is a mutual compromise…
She was a year older on Saturday, 26 May. I didn't bother to send a flower. I didn't call to
wish her a happy birthday, not even a text message. She thought I forgot. She felt I didn't care. But I had only saved
the best for last. Happy Birthday, Maureen Layokun…
And many happy returns!

Xclusive Awards: A Touch of Class:
The venue was the 4-Star Gresham hotel, the trophies were classy, the menu was a four-course and the guests were imperially elegant. Wow! |
