Publisher's Intro'
"Nothing happens to any man which he is not fit to bear....It is a shame then that
ignorance and conceit should be stronger than wisdom."
-Marcus Aurelius The Meditations..
Now let’s begin this with the too familiar:
As a non-EU national you need a GNIB card to live legally in Ireland. You also
need a re-entry visa to be able to travel in and out of this country. And to obtain both you must go through the
early morning ritual at Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Services (INIS), Burgh Quay. Spare me please, the Justice
Minister is not sending you out there to meet a “Father Christmas”. It’s €100 for GNIB Card, €100 for a multiple
re-entry visa and €60 for a single-re-entry. For a people already on their knees from spiralling cost of living,
this is Shylock asking for a pound of your flesh. So our cover story, “Rip-Off Ireland: Non-EU National Slam
Charges” captures the anger, frustration and exploitation of a traumatised section of the new Irish.
The crème de la crème of Nigerian music industry gathered in London on the 12 August
for the first ever Nigerian Music Awards (NMA), and your ever-reliable Xclusive Magazine was there live; robbing
shoulders with all the big names in the media, cornering the stars, gathering all the gist and the gossips for
your reading pleasure.
Nite of a Thousand Laughs! Yes, you heard me right. The greatest comedy show in
Africa is coming to Ireland, the first time in Europe, and Xclusive Magazine is supporting it. Be there!
Awilo Longomba was in Dublin for, again, the first ever Festival of African Art and
Culture (FESTAAC), and it took our persistent pressing of the right buttons to sniff out the techno sousous
(ala makosa) king for an Xclusive interview.
And there are more interviews: with Priscilla Jana, the South African Ambassador to
Ireland; with Zolani Mahola, the lead singer of Freshly Ground, from South African ; with Julius Agwu, arguably the
greatest comedian in Nigeria; and with Emeka Ezeani, the legal luminary. (Sorry, we’re unable to bring the promised
interview with Chinedu Onyejelem, the publisher of Metro Éireann, until next edition.) You will read all in this
edition, and also the usual on sports, food, juicy whispers and individual columns.
Hurray to good men: Kayode Fatola (Crystal Shop, Naas),Rasheed Ajao (in Cork) and
Adewumi Oke (in Carlow) men, rendering important selfless gestures to this magazine.
Best wishes, always.
Publisher/Editor-in-Chief.

Awilo Longomba:
Humorous, charming, amiable and ever-smiling Awilo is a man whose scintillating act has redefined a Makosa dance. Awilo
is a star, a superstar, but he does not wear it
in his sleeves. |

Julius Agwu's stage presence reminds one of Eddy Murphy in his now famous RAW video, but Julius’ act is in a class of its own. |
